Pubs & Tea Gardens
The Valley of 1000 Hills Route is one of KwaZulu Natal's best kept secrets, formed around the majestic valley created by the Mngeni River and its tributaries. Many artists and crafters have been attracted to the beauty and tranquility of this area dotted with friendly pubs and tea gardens with sweeping views over the hills and dams.
1000 Hills Choo Choo
The 1000 Hills Choo Choo runs from Kloof Station (Stokers Arms) to and from Inchanga Station, on the last and first Sunday of each month (twice daily 08h45 and 12h30), along the edge of the picturesque Valley of a Thousand Hills. At Inchanga Station one will find the popular Station Craft Market and numerous food outlets.
Shongweni attractions
The Shongweni Farmers market every Saturday morning provides a wonderful place to buy organic and fresh produce, and contributes even further to the feeling of country living, and the plethora of farm stalls, nurseries, country pubs and artists’ havens mean that one doesn’t have to leave the charm of country living or head off to malls to shop.
Visit the Shongweni Brewery nestled in the Valley of a Thousand Hill – or for the more adventurous view the stunning scenery from the skies. Microlight flips are organised from Cato Ridge Airfield.
There are also boat cruises on Shongweni, Nagle and Inanda Dams and visitors can spend a day on a fishing trip or escorted 4 wheel drives through the Valley Floor.
Shongweni Dam Nature Reserve
Shongweni Resource Centre - Its setting is a mixture of grassland and river valley where you can see any number of game – rhino, zebra, giraffe, kudu, buffalo and wildebeest – and do self-guided walking trails through the reserve.
